Art
“Beauty is the vocation of the artist.” We believe this vocation empowers children to discover great artists, enabling them to explore their own and others' cultural heritages"
Pope St. John Paul II
Intent
At St. Augustine’s Catholic Primary School, we value the importance of Art and Design. It is our children’s entitlement to share and express their individual creativity, independence, resilience, and self-reflection. Our intent is to provide all children with the fundamental skills, techniques, and knowledge needed to independently create their own unique drawings, paintings, sculptures, and crafts. We aim to inspire a natural sense of wonder and curiosity when studying a wide variety of artwork. At St. Augustine’s, we give children the time and space to explore new themes, sensations, and ways of being creative without the need to strive for perfection. Above all, we believe that the process takes precedence over the product, allowing our children to find joy and satisfaction in the journey of creating art.
Implementation
To ensure whole consistency and progression, the school uses the Grammarsaurus Art Curriculum which aligns with the English National Curriculum. The three domains have been mapped across three themes to ensure that pupils following this learning sequence have ample opportunity to progress in art by developing their practical knowledge, theoretical knowledge and disciplinary knowledge.
